We are pleased to announce the success of the SPORT GRIP, which has won the bicycle industry's prestigious Design and Innovation Award. This MTB grip is not just a simple accessory, but a significant increase in the comfort and performance of your mountain bike.
The Tatze Sport Grip impresses with its ergonomic design, which is specifically aimed at not only increasing comfort, but also protecting grip strength. This comfortable grip was designed to meet the needs of mountain bikers who are looking for a bike grip that can handle long day rides as well as tough downhill rides.
The outstanding feature of the 106g MTB handle is its ability to effectively dampen strong vibrations. This is particularly important to minimize fatigue and strain during demanding mountain bike adventures. The Sport Grip has been extensively tested and the results presented by the awards jury demonstrate the effectiveness of this innovative design.
"The TATZE SPORT GRIP mountain bike grips put an end to compromises when choosing grips. They offer extremely high comfort with a lot of grip - and come without bulky orthopedics look. The small wings on the outside provide noticeable relief for the palms, especially during long days on the bike. On the trail, the sensible division of the SPORT GRIP is particularly noticeable, as the rectangles on the underside provide a very good grip for the fingers, while the wave structure on the top provides additional comfort. The rubber mixture of the handles offers good grip without feeling sticky on the hands. This is a real plus, especially for anyone who likes to ride without gloves. Thanks to the simple They are also quick and easy to install thanks to the clamp on the inside. The PAWS are available in black, blue, red and orange - and if you like, in different colors for the right and left handles."

The first step in deciding on the right pedals starts with the Choice of shoes And here mountain bike shoes are ideal for 3 reasons:
As described, in most cases MTB shoes are better for gravel riding than racing bike shoes and so it's a good thing that there are also good reasons for the mountain bike version when it comes to pedals:
In a direct comparison with racing bike pedals, it becomes clear that, in addition to stability and dirt resistance, efficiency is also important. The large contact surface between pedal and shoe, which ensures optimal power transmission on racing bike pedals, is also the case with Gravel pedal very important. So it makes sense Pedal with a generous contact surface to the shoe to choose, which creates a similar feeling to road bike pedals. It is important that the pedal is light yet compact in order to minimize the overall weight and avoid contact with the ground.
Play a special role Hybrid or combination pedals, ideal for gravel bikers who move on rough terrain and want to use their foot for support or who want to use the bike in everyday life. These pedals are characterized by their versatility, offering a pedal with a click mechanism on one side and a flat pedal on the other side. The flat pedal side should be large enough, have enough pins and be designed so that the cleat does not have any metallic contact with the pedal, as this significantly reduces the grip.
Of course, gravel bikes can also be equipped with flat pedals, because there are options for everyone who gets along well with flat pedals on a mountain bike or doesn't want to switch to clipless pedals Flats that are very suitable for gravel use. A slightly smaller and weight-saving platform should be chosen. So that the pedal pressure can be transferred well, we recommend shoes with good grip and a stable sole construction, such as the Crankbrother Freerider Pro, a classic among flat MTB shoes.
In summary, a gravel pedal should be dirt-resistant, easy to walk and efficient to ensure the optimal riding experience. A low weight and solid storage complete the requirements and enable you to have casual adventures on your gravel bike.
The quality of the pin material plays a big role. Tempered steel in grades 10.9 or 12.9 are resistant to wear and provide long-lasting grip. Softer materials can wear or bend, resulting in loss of traction.
The shape of the pins influences the contact with the shoe and is responsible for the resistance. A good compromise between the aggressiveness of the pins (the thinner the more snappy) and durability (the thicker the stronger) is a diameter between 3.0 and 3.6mm. The grip of the pins can be increased by adding a recess at the tip.
The length of the pins is crucial for how deeply the shoe can penetrate the pin and how much pressure is built up on the sole. The correct length ensures sufficient grip, although the tread depth of the shoes should be taken into account. If the grip is too low, the platform pedal can be optimized with longer pins.
The position of the pins on the pedal body influences the distribution of grip. A well-thought-out arrangement ensures that the pressure is evenly distributed across the foot and that grip is guaranteed even when the shoe is positioned in different ways. The example of the LINK pedal with 3 different ones Pin setup variants shows how the arrangement of the pins influences the function.
Pins that are installed at different heights (concave arrangement) are adapted to the shape of the shoe and increase the grip level.
The number of pins per side of the pedal influences both the grip level and the weight of the pedal. More pins mean more possible contact points and therefore more grip. Ultimately, the number of pins required also depends on the condition of the shoe sole, because a jagged hiking or mountain shoe sole (e.g. for bike mountaineering or often used by eBikers) means that some pins cannot make contact with the shoe or can make insufficient contact. In this case, optimal is one Pedal with as many pins as possible to use. On the other hand, 10-12 pins are usually sufficient for flat soles of flat pedal shoes, as each pin can establish contact with the shoe.
A little-noticed fact is that the shape and number of pins have a significant impact on the weight of the pedal. One pin weighs 0.5 - 1.0 grams, which means up to 24g more weight for a pedal with 8 pins per pedal side compared to 14 pins.
In practice, two common thread sizes for pins have been established: M4 and M3. Pedals with aluminum pedal bodies mostly use M4 threads, while plastic pedals use pins with M3 threads, which are secured with embedded nuts in the pedal body.
In summary, the pins on mountain bike pedals play a crucial role in grip and function. The right selection of material, shape, length, arrangement and quantity of pins can significantly improve the driving experience.
By developing your own pins, these can be optimally tailored to the pedal. But if you already have a pedal and want to tune it, you can do so with the matching pins adapt to his needs.
A: 6.5mm long M4 pin with hex drive
B: 5.0mm / 6.3mm long and reversible M4 PIN with Allen drive
C: 4.5mm long M4 pin with hex drive
D: 3.75mm / 4.75mm long M3 pin with Allen drive
]]>Kevin Maderegger has achieved his long-overdue victory at the 2023 Austrian Mountain Bike Enduro National Championship. After several years of hard work and outstanding top three finishes, he was crowned state champion this year.
Right from the start of the competition, Kevin showed that he was in top form. His constantly high pace in the first five stages secured him a comfortable lead. But in the last of a total of six stages the rear tire was suddenly flat and victory seemed to be in jeopardy.
However, at this critical moment, Kevin showed his skills. He rode half of the last stage on the rim and kept his nerve. Incredibly, despite the handicap, he still achieved the second fastest time on this stage.
When it came to the contact points, Kevin Maderegger relied entirely on TATZE and his bike with the SPORT GRIP and the MC FLY Pedal directed to victory.
Kevin Maderegger has proven that he not only has the skills, but also the patience and calmness of a champion - Congrats!!!

]]>Tom has won several national and international titles, for example in 2008 when he became bike trial world champion. He also entered the Guinness Book of Records with “Highest Wallclimb on a Bicycle” (2.89 m) and “Fastest 400 m hurdles on a bicycle” (44.62 s). Many more adventures followed, such as the tour of Nepal in 2016, the Red Bull Fantasy Line or the trip to Cappadocia.
It's clear that someone like Tom doesn't make any compromises when it comes to material in order to achieve maximum bike control and so we're particularly pleased about the cooperation mtb pedals between Tom Öhler and TATZE bike-components. The new ones come on the Austrian's different bikes CONTACT CNC Pedals and that LINK Pedal with titanium axle used.
We are very pleased to be able to accompany Tom on his future adventures. Our mountain bike pedals are intended to create a perfect connection between him and his bike in his new projects and his feedback will be incorporated into further developments.

]]>Whether a pedal is just good, excellent or outstanding can only be determined in comparison with the best pedals in the category and so we are very pleased to have won the test against the who's who of the international competition.
"The Austrians are doing everything right with their first plastic pedal:
The flat design increases the ground clearance. The Link Composite has high-quality bearings, is double-sealed and also looks good. The enormous grip is noticeable even on the first meters. The pins seem to literally drill into the shoe profile, and the outer pins are slightly raised for optimal contact. When you put your foot down, you can feel the metal pins pulling out of the sole. This ensures maximum grip on the descent, but also makes it difficult to reposition your foot on the pedal. Riders with big feet will want a slightly larger footprint."

]]>what that MC-FLY but what makes it a special pedal is the extremely tight connection to the shoe. We made sure that the cleat mounted on the shoe has no contact with the pedal body. This means that there is only contact between the shoe sole and the pedal body. The large areas to the left and right of the click mechanism are also provided with 4 threads so that PINs can be used if necessary. This allows the contact pressure to the shoe to be individually adjusted.
We are very pleased that the evaluation of the expert jury, after extensive tests on the bike, confirms our development goals and considers the MC-FLY pedal worthy of the Design & Innovation Award:

]]>With the project submitted for the Eurobike AWARD 2019, we go one step further and question the classic structure of a drive unit, because the system that has been used for 150 years has proven itself, but leaves little room for making pedals even lighter and thinner.
With the TATZE Integral-Standard the components of a pedal - axle, bearing including seal and pedal body - are rearranged, whereby the crank is included in this system. The storage is integrated into the installation space of the crank, so that one-piece and extremely thin and light pedals can be realized.
We call this one-piece pedal BLADE because it is thin as a blade. With a thickness of only 3mm at the edge of the pedal, it undercuts everything that has existed so far and sets new standards. It is particularly important that there are no bumps in the pedal (e.g. in the middle above the axle) so that the PINs can bite into the shoe sole with even pressure.
In addition to these two world innovations - integral standard with pedal bearing in the crank and one-piece pedal - there is another innovation. Due to the very thin design, we have developed pins that protrude from both ends of the pedal. Thus, weight can be saved (only one thread for 2 pin sides) and the pedal can be made thinner and lighter again, since fewer holes have to be drilled in the pedal body. In addition, the PINs have a hexagon so that they can be easily removed in the event of damage. The conically tapering pins have a hollow milling at the tip to generate maximum grip.
Under this LINK you can be informed about all news (availability, product details and prices) of the integral system.

TATZE TEAM rider Julian Hauer is the man for the rough, because his size in combination with his aggressive riding style push every part of the bike to its limits - perfect conditions for testing our prototypes.
]]>This is the first time Kevin has inscribed himself in the history books of the IXS Downhill Cup, as it looks probably not the last time.
The success of our drivers inspires and motivates us as a TEAM and we are very happy that we can support Kevin with the prototype of the MC-FLY clipless pedal.
]]>TATZE TEAM RIDER Max Fejer was there and started in the elite class for the first time. Therefore, despite optimal preparation, the goals were not set too high. Max completes the 6 stages with ranks 6, 10, 3, 3, 2 and 4, which in the end means a sensational 3rd overall rank.
The brand new MC-AIR flat pedal with titanium axle was used for the first time at this race, which shows that a powerful and light flat pedal is a perfect companion for a race weekend!
]]>With Franzi and Jona von talesontyres it's different, because as team riders of Bombtrack Bicycle Co. you have been traveling the continents for about 6 years.
After having lived with and on bikes for a year and a half, they moved into a bus in autumn 2018 to explore Europe "bike-packed".
They are looking for new bikepacking routes, want to collect information, drive already known routes and do all of this with the bikepacking community (e.g. bikepacking.com) and hopefully be an inspiration to others. For the winter of 2018/2019 they are also planning to experience the Atlas Mountains in Morocco.
For the new challenges, the material was upgraded and the question of whether we can do it with PAW TWO-FACE We didn't have to think twice about equipping pedals. For Franzi and Jona, it's about being able to easily switch between click and flat pedals, as more and more technical trails are being used and a flat pedal with a lot of grip is ideal for this. For the less technical gravel passages, the efficiency of a clipless pedal is perfect.
In addition to our involvement in the Austrian downhill scene, the collaboration with Franzi and Jona gives us the opportunity to test pedals in extreme situations, because the two of them drive a lot of kilometers in different and also adverse conditions. Your feedback will give us the opportunity to further improve our pedals.
Of course, we should be inspired by the stories from Spain, France and Morocco. In general, Franzi and Jona report on their adventures on Instagram (@talesontyres) and in theirs Blog. They also regularly write for bikepacking.com, outville.cc and other.

It all started at Crankworx Innsbruck 2017 when someone took a close look at the prototypes of the MC-AIR Flat- and TWO-FACE Enduropedal. We talked about the shape of the pedal body, the number and arrangement of the PINs, easy or less easy turning of the pedals, maintenance options and the quality of the milling work - a normal conversation among bike and technology freaks ;-)
Already during this conversation Erich showed that he is not only one of the fastest riders in the Alpine republic, but also a perfect partner for the further development of "TATZEN". When designing pedals, it is our aim to implement innovations in order to become better bikers. It is clear that everyone involved is constantly on the bike, but nothing can replace the experience and input of a top rider. In competitive sports it is ultimately about optimizing many details in order to have the fastest overall package in the end. In order to achieve this, we will provide Erich with the best possible pedals, implement optimizations at short notice and later incorporate them into the series products.
Nevertheless, all the rational reasons for the cooperation cannot hide the actual reason: Erich is an extremely personable and cool guy and the anticipation to see him with our "RACEN" pedals is huge!
In this sense, we are proud to be able to support Erich and wish him a successful and injury-free season and, above all, a lot of fun biking !!!

The MC-AIR flat pedal is the second prototype series and I can anticipate that the first tests went very well both on the test bench and on the trail.
Left: Measuring the prototype, center and right: the prototype during CNC machining
In order to get from the idea to the finished product quickly, we work in design and production with the utmost concentration and examine every conceivable detail. This passion for detail is also a distinctive design aspect, with all details being due either to function, weight reduction or stability.
The cooperation between design and production is also important, because the PAWS must be able to be "milled" efficiently and cleanly. That is why not only the product is created for the first time in the prototype production, but also the production is prepared.

The TATZE MC-AIR flat pedal will be available in summer 2018 and shares the platform and design language with the TWO-FACE trail pedal.

The Design & Innovation Award (DI.A) is more than an award. It provides orientation and separates the wheat from the chaff. It is the only award with real product tests, holistic assessment and critically well-founded statements. This year, too, the award team of international journalists, professional test drivers and industry experts invested over 6,000 working hours.
The Design & Innovation Award is a seal of approval and a benchmark for the best products in the bike world. In addition, the Design & Innovation Award creates orientation in an increasingly differentiated market with a flood of new products and supposedly new trends, and at the same time serves as a catalyst for future innovations.
Here is the expert jury's assessment of the TATZE TWO-FACE pedal:
"Up to now, combination pedals that can be used with both clipless and flat pedal shoes were usually a compromise that was not very practical. The new TWO-FACE pedals from the TATZE brand are completely different Offer an option for everyone who does not want to forego the pedaling efficiency of clipless pedals or the freedom of platform pedals. The large and concave platform with 14 sharp pins offers plenty of support even with clipless shoes. The click side is slightly angled in relation to the flat side to further increase the ground clearance of the already flat pedals. At only 397 g, the pedals are also pleasantly light. So that the desired side is always up, the pedal remains in its current position when unloaded. "

So it happened to us:
After I gave up my career as a triathlete and had little free time between my job and family, my sporting activities became quiet. After 6 years a New Year's Eve resolution put an end to this "physical dilemma" and I bought my first fully. Various transalp tours followed and more and more the need to try supposedly inaccessible trails. My clipless pedals became more of a problem, because at the limit of my driving ability I didn't want to have a permanent connection to the bike. On the other hand, I didn't want to do without the efficiency and the defined shoe position of clipless pedals. The solution was a potent combination pedal, which was not available on the market for this purpose. Some modifications of existing pedals - these were milled out, equipped with PINs, provided with click, etc. - did not lead to the desired result. They were too heavy, had too little grip or too little ground clearance. One day, while cleaning my Shimano clickies, I noticed that I could remove the buckling mechanism on one side and use the thread to mount a flat pedal adapter. That was the solution, because I didn't have to develop an axle or bearing, but "only" a perfect platform - the idea for the ADD-FLAT pedal adapter was born and launched in 2017. Even then I was fascinated by the possibilities of developing a complete pedal. The result of this process is the TWO-FACE pedal, which has now been awarded the DESIGN & INNOVATION AWARD 2018, with 14 PINs on the flat side, 6 PINs on the click side, the first pedal ever with a rotation of the flat side to the click side for more ground clearance, a defined position to be able to select the side that corresponds to the driving situation and a weight of only 387 g for these powerful pedals (you can find more information about the TWO-FACE HERE).
Anyone who knows the history of mountain bikes knows that their origins lie in the development of products based on their own experience. Passionate bikers got together in 1973 to ride downhill as quickly and with as much fun as possible. Missing components were quickly built in the garage, screwed onto the bike and tried out, always with the aim of becoming a better biker. Without making the slightest claim to be on the same level as these pioneers, I still feel connected to the tradition of developing components in order to become a better biker.

Goergl Intense and TATZE bike – components promote the “new” e – bike.
The e-bike had a hard time with die-hard bikers - bulky optics, poor geometry and catastrophic components put every bike enthusiast on the run.
The two-time Ski World Cup winner Stephan Görgl wanted to show us that these times are over.
With goergl-Intense.at, Stephan offers ski and summer e-bike adventures and is continuously optimizing his offer. “A bike freak friend of mine got me on my feet and I absolutely had to test this pedal from Tyrol,” says Stephan Görgl.
But we also wanted to test and the opportunity was good to push an e-bike, more precisely a Lapierre Overvolt AM, to its limits together with Stephan.
The 140mm bike from France was of course meticulously tuned, because we wanted to give the bike a fair chance!
OK, the 600 m ascent on the Aschenbrenner in Kufstein was easy and I was able to talk to Stephan in a relaxed way. That was to be expected. But what happened on the following trail with root passages and switchbacks was not predictable. The Lapierre lay like a board, the 2.8 tires with 0.9 bar stuck to the ground and made a clean line choice obsolete - just hold on and go. Sounds martial, and it was!
After the section I am intoxicated and realize that my bike universe has shifted in the last few minutes. "Wow, e-bikes are in no way inferior to potent and non-motorized enduros" was my greeting when Stephan came out of the forest grinning.
Our test drive would have ended now, but I didn't want to give up the Lapierre yet. The day was already drawing to a close, but the battery was almost full and so we quickly drove or shot the 800 hm on the Pendling with maximum support. For me an additional trail as a gift that would not have been possible without "e" at the evening hour.
During this ascent I had the first thought that there was a third attractive option between the lift or bike park and manpower. I'm also starting to think about possible components, because weight plays a subordinate role with e-bikes. An uphill bike with uncompromising downhill components, what a thought!
Speaking of components: As a pure e-biker, Stephan had a good feel, because the TATZE fits perfectly on the motorized "mountain goats". Being connected to the power of the engine on the uphill is an exhilarating feeling and means even more efficiency. Downhill, the concave and large TATZE platform with its twelve pivot pins shows its full potential and leaves no doubt that the shoe will stay on the pedal even in the roughest terrain and at high speed.
After this experience, one thing is certain, the new e-bikes can be pure fun in uphill and downhill. Goergl-Intense and TATZE bike-components will promote the e-bike in Tyrol and beyond under the motto “Passion connects” and maybe there will be an Intense e-bike TATZE!
